The new network environment of Killeen Castle integrates the existing solutions for video security and access control with new applications for VoIP and IPTV. In this way, Killeen Castle is fully living up to its reputation as a world-class hotel, resort, and golf course.

Killeen Castle is located just under an hour from the Irish capital city of Dublin. This imposing Norman-style castle was built in the 12th century. The castle grounds have now been turned into a golf course – designed by the renowned golfer Jack Nicklaus – along with a branch of the Dave Pelz Golf School, the only one located outside of the USA. In recent years, the castle has undergone a thorough renovation. Along the way, the owners came up with a plan to opera te a resort complete with hotel, spa, golf club and luxurious residences on the 600 acre estate. The residences are freestanding so extra attention was paid to privacy and security.
The Solheim Cup 2011
Killeen Castle aims to provide its guests and residents with superior service so they turned to Telindus to set up a reliable, high-performance intelligent network infrastructure on site. The network had to be capable of integrating existing systems for CCTV (Closed-Circuit TV) and access control with new solutions for VoIP and IPTV. The entire project will have to be completed by the Solheim Cup in 2011. The Solheim Cup is a biennial golf tournament for professional women golfers contested by teams representing Europe and the United States.
LAN as base
At the Killeen Castle site, Telindus is implementing a LAN, based on Cisco technology. The LAN will form the base for IPTV, VoIP, and WiFi in the golf club clubhouse and in all the residences. Each guest house will have broadband internet access and a solution for IP telephony. Guests will also be able to use the system to operate the heating, lighting, and sound installation in the houses. There will be various WiFi hotspots distributed throughout the grounds so that guests can surf the Internet from anywhere on the property. The infrastructure is also an asset for the employees of Killeen Castle: It offers them secure access to the company’s data network.
Unlimited communications buffet
“Telindus has excelled in bringing Killeen Castle a high performance network solution for IPTV and VoIP as well as providing us with a solid infrastructure that will keep us at the forefront of the latest technology,” explains Darren Curley, Facilities Manager at Killeen Castle. Through the LAN, Killeen Castle will offer its guests a wide range of communication options, in addition to entertainment and security related services. Hotel guests and residents will be able to book rounds of golf over the network and order catering. The network will also give them access to IPTV – where they can then choose their own personal selection of content. Solutions for access control also offers the option to visually monitor who is coming and going.
Business advantages
• Services to guests and residents thanks to a stable network with large bandwidth.
• Successful integration of the existing solutions for CCTV and access control with new applications for VoIP and IPTV.
• Future-oriented network infrastructure as a base for expanding services.
