Guests at the prestigious Hotel Le Royal in Luxembourg have access to a fast wireless Internet connection during their stay. Telindus devised a solution for the hotel that is unique in Europe.

Hotel Le Royal doesn’t just offer its guests a free Internet connection. “We realized that the existing technology was no longer meeting the needs of our customers,” explained Philippe Scheffer, General Manager of the hotel. “For our business customers it is extremely important that they have good, convenient Internet access in the hotel, preferably wireless.” Since the existing infrastructure was no longer sufficient, the hotel went looking for a new solution to meet the mobile connectivity needs of even the most demanding customers.

HotCity: a European first

For Hotel Le Royal, Telindus designed a solution that goes much further than simply upgrading the existing network. Scheffer: “Telindus proposed that we connect the hotel to the HotCity network. Naturally, that meant we had to review our entire WiFi set-up.” HotCity is an initiative of the city of Luxembourg, with Telindus as partner. It provides mobile Internet access by WiFi throughout the entire city, based on geolocation. That makes the project a European first. With HotCity, Luxembourg wants to provide a premium service to its residents, but also to visitors and business travelers. “By switching to HotCity, we now have excellent network coverage throughout the hotel. That noticeably improved the service to our guests right away,” said Scheffer.

Flawless, easy-to-use solution

In order to provide optimal support to the Hotel Le Royal with the HotCity project, the city of Luxembourg and Telindus put together a set of simple, flexible and easily scalable services. At the same time, the hotel can rely on strategic and operational ICT support: from technical assistance and maintenance through to consultancy and support via a helpdesk. Of particular importance is that the project can offer hotel guests a technologically flawless solution that is dead easy to use. Scheffer: “Guests are no longer tied to their hotel room if they want to access the Net. Neither do they have to go and get an access code from the reception desk before they can go online.”

Access for all WiFi-devices

Thanks to HotCity, Hotel Le Royal no longer has to worry about technical problems. “Telindus took the time to gain an understanding of our business. On that basis, the company proposed a solution that is a perfect match for our customers’ needs,” Scheffer continued. But for Hotel Le Royal, HotCity doesn’t stop there. At the hotel the guests can access the Net using all WiFi-compatible devices. The network is also accessible outside of the hotel - throughout the city. Using geolocation, HotCity determines where the user is. Outside of the hotel, the guest pays a fixed amount by credit card per hour or per day. Scheffer: “With HotCity we can differentiate ourselves in the market. The system entrances to our dynamic and prestigious image. We are clearly attracting new customers thanks to the service.” The wireless network also allows the hotel to look to the future: after all, it can also be used for telephony, IT applications or videosurveillance.
