Free wifi for your visitors?

Fon makes it easy!

Are you looking for a simple way to offer a free Internet connection to visitors to your company? Or would you like to occasionally surf for free in Belgium and abroad? It’s possible, via the wifi network that Belgacom has developed jointly with the Spanish provider Fon. The BBox modems of ADSL customers are transformed into Fon hotspots. In exchange, these customers are then allowed to surf for free on 300,000 other Fon hotspots in Belgium and on 4 million more in other countries. With a smartphone, you simply login via the free Fon App (now available for Android, soon also for iPhone and Windows Phone 7). On a laptop, you search for a nearby wifi network and log in with a username and password. Has your Fon option not yet been activated? Via Belgacom e-Services, it will be taken care of in no time.

Spool

Continue reading when it suits you

How often have you thought: “interesting article, I’ll definitely have to read that later”. And is that what then happens? Or does the article get lost in the oversupply of information? Spool is a simple but super handy app for Android phones that solves this problem. And it even comes for free. While you surf, you can use Spool to mark all the interesting webpages, videos or images. These are then sent via the cloud to your phone (or PC, or tablet) and synchronized so that you can look them up later, even where there is no Internet connection. In other words, Spool ensures that you always have something interesting to read. It’s great when you’re stuck in traffic, on the train or in a plane. And, in the meantime, while you’re at work, you can keep your mind on the most urgent items.

XperienceIT Xtra Workshops

The successful event ‘XperienceIT 2.011’ that took place last October was recently given an encore performance. On 7 and 16 February, those interested could attend a selection of the workshops from XperienceIT. 64 B elgacom clients took advantage of the opportunity.

All CIOs and IT managers these days are facing challenges related to mobility, in terms of cost and efficiency and the security of the devices as well as availability of the company network. This made the information on integrating tablets and smartphones into the company more than welcome. Furthermore, the emphasis was on the ongoing evolution of cloud solutions, both in hybrid form and via the private or public cloud. Interest also continues to grow in ‘as-a-service’ solutions. During an interactive workshop, clients found out all about videoconferencing-as-a-service and the solution for their own datacenter in the cloud: vContainer. The idea of outsourcing IT services in order to concentrate on the core business is growing increasingly attractive.

All money raised went directly to the Croix Rouge de Belgique, Rode Kruis Vlaanderen, Restos du Coeur and Samusocial. What’s more, Belgacom made several of its buildings available for sheltering the homeless, and Belgacom employees collected warm blankets, clothing and money.
