Emergency services in East-Flanders send mobile camera ahead
For the fire departments of Ghent and Beveren and the civil defense in Liedekerke, Belgacom implemented a mobile system with both a visual and a thermal imaging camera. The emergency services use the cameras to assess hazardous situations from a safe distance. Via a WiFi-connection, the cameras transmit high-resolution images to a mobile router. From there, the images are transmitted over the Proximus 3G-network to the server located with the governor of Eastern Flanders. If there is an incident, the policy commission for the municipality in question has secure access to the images. This speeds up and simplifies the communication between the government authorities and the command station for the emergency services.

A fixed network of surveillance cameras with license-plate readers is helping the police in the region of Turnhout to improve troad safety. The devices are also an extra tool for fighting crime. Belgacom installed a fixed network of surveillance cameras with license-plate readers for the Turnhout Regional Police Force. Thanks to that system, the police are able to determine the location of a car at any particular time and can compare the detected license-plate number with a blacklist. What’s more, the system can also identify speed violations and combat unauthorized shortcut traffic. In the latter case, the system verifies whether a truck is included on the whitelist, which means it is authorized to enter a restricted zone. Read more
