European first for Andorra

In Andorra, the entire population has access to a super-high-speed glass fiber network, and this is a first in Europe. Operator Andorra Telecom regards fiber-to-the-home as the essential basis for further expansion. Telindus Spain constructed the transport and access network and coordinated the overall active network deployment.

Storage capacity, ready for tomorrow

Belgacom gives bpost a new state-of-the art and future-proofed storage system

Belgacom ensured the flawless migration of the business-critical storage environment of bpost. The new machines are housed at the datacenters of Belgacom and Mobistar/KPN. They give bpost greater capacity and allow more efficient data management. Belgacom migrated the storage environment of bpost to two VMAX-systems from EMC. The machines are connected to each other with switches from Brocade. Between the two housing sites, Belgacom and Mobistar/KPN are providing a glass fiber cable connection. “The new solution perfectly meets our expectations in terms of capacity, availability, expandability and manageability”, says Bart De Wachter, manager ICT Infrastructure, Operations & Support at bpost. “In the next few years, we will be able to handle our storage a lot more efficiently.” Read more

Network environment stimulates collaboration in research

Thanks to Belgacom, Ablynx is able to count on a stable, safe and redundant LAN and WAN. The Belgian biotech company’s network provides a solid basis for tools that enhance the collaboration between colleagues and partners.

Ablynx is active in the world of biopharmaceuticals. The company researches potential new medicines based on ‘nanobodies’. These are small antibody molecules that the company derives from llamas. Ablynx connected its locations in Belgium and Portugal to Belgacom Explore. The network forms the basis for videoconferencing between Belgium and Portugal, for example. At the company headquarters in Ghent, Belgacom installed a LAN (Juniper) and a VoIP-infrastructure (Cisco) for 220 IP-telephones. Read more
