What is the future role of health insurance funds according to Pierre Cools, IT Manager at Mutuelle Socialiste?
The health insurance funds want to increase their added value through a range of new services. Just think here of consultations that are registered via a web portal and are automatically reimbursed by the health fund.

As the head of the IT department at Mutuelle Socialiste, Pierre Cools is closely involved in the development of MyCareNet, one of the first projects that use the eHealth platform. Pierre Cools: “the goal of MyCareNet is to exchange information among professional care providers and to modernise the health insurance funds. We want to increase the added value of the mutual insurance fund through a number of new services. The green doctor’s letter is a practical example of this. The administrative bother that this causes is enormous, both for the care provider and health insurance funds. Thanks to MyCareNet it will no longer be necessary to fill it in. The consultation is registered via the web portal and reimbursement of the patient by the health insurance fund occurs automatically.” The first users are nurses, and they are being followed by the laboratories, pharmacists and doctors. MyCareNet will form an integral part of the basic services that are offered through the eHealth platform. Pierre Cools has only praise for Belgacom’s initiative of organising this Health Innovation Forum. “As ICT experts we usually deal with the technical side of the matter. So the Forum is also a not-to-be-missed opportunity to exchange thoughts with care providers. Their needs and the patient’s needs are ultimately the driver behind all of the applications that we develop. It is certainly good to be reminded of that regularly. Apart from this, the information that you obtain at this forum is invaluable. Thanks to the interesting presentations and workshops, after one day you are up to date again completely with the latest trends and developments.”
