Towards a national health network: Belgacom’s role

Christian Dezangré, Strategic Consultant at Belgacom

An unmistakeable role has been earmarked for Belgacom in the eHealth field, in close cooperation with fellow experts in the healthcare sector.

christian_dezangreThe government’s e-Health platform represents the culmination of remarkable work among the federal authorities, INAMI, the Mutual insurance funds and care providers. The existence of eHealth clearly establishes the foundations of a structured, secure environment for the deployment of the eHealth concept in Belgium. Christian Dezangré, Strategic Consultant at Belgacom, explains how a regionally and nationally integrated health network satisfies demands to manage and access information, share advice and experience, bring stakeholders together and simplify administrative tasks. As the generic approach to improving the quality of care recommended by the sector is visibly oriented towards the concept of a patient path, it appears to be increasingly accepted that the electronic patient file will become the cornerstone for global construction. The question that remains concerns the patient’s role with respect to this file. What are his rights? What is his responsibility? These questions remain fundamental to achieving the deployment of an efficient eHealth environment which offers both quality and profitability to the citizen and society.

Belgacom has proven that it plays a pivotal role in the sector, which is testified to by contributions to projects such as MyCareNet and Belgium-HF. MyCareNet is a cornerstone in the e-health strategy adopted by the Belgacom Group, which aims to build further on new projects such as the electronic prescription and telemedicine.

Belgacom has also shown that it is an essential protagonist in eHealth by supplying tools and managed services to patients, their family and medical care providers in order to digitally connect, inform and support them in cooperation with fellow healthcare experts such as Oracle, Certipost and Microsoft.
