Belgium-HF is the result of cooperation between SSMG (Société Scientifique de Médecine Générale), the Brussels Heart Centre at Clinique St-Jean, Touring, Belgacom Mobile and Vistalsys. Specialising in telemedicine services and the integration of telemedicine services for various medical applications, the latter was bought by Fifthplay with the aim of developing an e-services platform in the healthcare sector. The two companies are part of the Niko group, which is famous for its lighting control, intercom and videophone systems and products. What is the relationship between a switch and healthcare? “Many problems are linked to ageing” explains Kris van Daele, Managing Director of Fifthplay-Vitalsys. “A simple example: the elderly person or patient opening an entrance door”. With VitalCare infrastructure, the goal is to track patients remotely by measuring blood pressure, weight or sugar levels. With the help of devices placed on the patients, measured data is transmitted by Bluetooth to a mobile phone, which in turn sends an SMS to a monitoring service.
