Videoconferencing makes cooperation between doctors at different hospitals possible

Philippe Coucke, Head of Radiotherapy Dept, CHU Liege

The radiotherapists at CHU Liege meet virtually every day to discuss patient cases, to meet, to cooperate with the university and to clarify new technologies.

Videoconferencing has also taken firm root in the Radiotherapy Department at CHU Liege: Prof. Philippe Coucke, Head of the Radiotherapy Department, has used a video camera to take part in the workshop. Thanks to the innovative Belgacom and Tandberg solution, radiotherapists who are spread across the four hospital sites meet virtually every day to discuss patient files, to hold team meetings, to cooperate with the university, and to clarify new technologies and methods. Thus, videoconferencing offers them the possibility of monitoring operations that take place in a different campus or of compiling diagnoses remotely.

As it promotes cooperation between (multidisciplinary) teams, videoconferencing is an important step forward in optimising patient care. It leads to a substantial cost and time saving. And the “green” aspect cannot be lost from sight either, as a journey to hospital is saved.
