WLAN has become a core technology in the hospital environment.
Benjamin Binon, Technical Consultant at Belgacom, explained the strong growth in the number of wireless applications within the hospital environment. Wireless networks offer a response to many of the current challenges in the healthcare sector, such as growing mobility and flexibility, high-quality patient care and the safety of both the patient and hospital employee.
WLAN is migrating from an overlying technology to a core network infrastructure which supports a multitude of innovative solutions. To finish off, he gave an overview of various WLAN projects in which Belgacom played an active role (e.g. GlaxoSmithKline, CHR Namur, RHMS) in cooperation with partners such as Cisco, Trapeze, Aeroscout, Nokia and Avaya.
