The belgian government decided to levvy taxes on company mobile phones if the company cannot differentiate private from professional calls made by the employees. We already have the solution to this issue.

Worldwide, 3 out of 5 people now own a mobile phone. And this year, another 4 billion mobile phone subscriptions will be added, out of a total world population of 6.8 billion. The threshold of 4 billion mobile devices was crossed some time ago but the new figures recorded by the German IT Observatorium specifically represent the count of active mobile telephone numbers. The largest growth is taking place in the BRIC-countries. In India, mobile telephone use is expected to increase this year by 32 percent, to 457 million users. In the older industrialized countries, expectations for growth are fairly limited. The European Union now counts more mobile telephone contracts than citizens. The players in this market are currently focusing primarily on mobile Internet services.

Europe makes compatible solution mandatory
Your mobile telephone is out of battery power, and you left your charger at home, but no one at the office has a charger that fits. Sound familiar? This will soon be a thing of the past. At the request of the European Commission, the 10 largest mobile telephone manufacturers have decided that by 2010, they will offer a compatible mobile telephone charger to go with their new models. Micro-USB is the standard that will be used. The end of situation as we know it, with just about every brand and model – in Europe this means some 185 million new devices per year– having its own specific type of charger. Through this measure, Europe aims to reduce the growing mountain of electronic waste. A next phase will address the chargers for laptops and digital cameras. This approach to electronic waste is another way of contributing to green IT.
