An online survey conducted by Belgacom revealed that the staff of large companies in Belgium are exceptionally well-versed in social networks and wikis. Belgacom questioned the employees of their major clients: companies with a workforce of over 250. The Belgacom clients also use these online tools in their jobs. Blogs and forums do not score as high however. Among the social networks, LinkedIn came out - not unexpectedly - as front runner. The fact that LinkedIn has a specific b2b-character has a lot to do with this of course. The Belgacom clients surveyed also often use Facebook, but that network tends to be reserved for their private lives. For the time being, there appears to still be a certain inhibition about using blogs. Numerous respondents indicated that they read blogs, but this is more related to their personal interests and not so much for work. Approximately half indicated familiarity with the medium. A small minority also contributes to or comments on blogs. Most respondents described themselves in relation to the blogs more as listeners who do not necessarily wish to actively participate in the debate. The Belgacom clients also indicated that they favor electronic newsletters as a source of information. The use of Twitter as a medium has yet to fully take root.
