Alcatel-Lucent studies consumer behavior
The recession is clearly visible in the spending patterns of the average European family. Research conducted by Alcatel-Lucent shows that 64% of families are reducing household spending. In the list of areas in which families are economizing most, going out to cafés was number one, followed by concerts, video rental and sporting events. Pay-per-view films through digital TV is the first online expenditure that European families are cutting. Internet and telephone are much further down on the list. Some 84% of the families consider broadband a necessary expense, while the fixed telephone line is completely indispensable. However, families would be prepared to cut back on mobile data traffic.
