Along with the laptop and the smartphone, a third mobile device is coming into use within companies: the tablet. Tablets also represent a new way of working and living. For now, the tablet remains chiefly a consumer device that is being introduced into the work environment by users (in droves). This is suddenly generating a number of new challenges for the CIO: adapting applications, impact on the business network, costs for mobile communication, security, etc.

Wednesday August 31st, 2011Largest wifi network in Belgium
Belgacom and the Spanish company Fon have joined forces to create the largest wifi network in Belgium. 1 million ADSL-customers can become a member of the Fon-community. Their BBox-modems will be converted into a publicly accessible wifi-point. This second network will be completely separate from the private network. And naturally, using it will be free of charge. In exchange, Belgacom-customers will be able to make use of 4 million other Fon-hotspots, in Belgium and abroad. This way, Belgacom is offering an additional alternative for mobile Internet via 3G, which is slower and more expensive than wifi. It will also help relieve the burden on the mobile network.
